Ian Paige

BioI met Ian Paige the first day I arrived in Portland. I was moving into my new apartment in what would become the Tower of Song. Ian was coming down the stairs the other way, and handed me a flyer to an upcoming show at SPACE Gallery, where he was the events programmer. The show was called Dead of Winter, and it was a showcase for the city’s great musical talents. I think close to 20 different acts played, but the last two were the most memorable. The penultimate performance was by dilly dilly and Sontiago, and they whipped the crowd into a frenzy with their sparkly dresses, over-sized sunglasses, and relentless energy. The final performer was Samuel James, who first performed a spellbinding version of “St. James Infirmary Blues”, and then put down his guitar for a hambone rendition of “The KKK took my Baby Away”. It was a fine introduction to Portland’s music scene, and Eternal Otter Records has since released music by many of the performers that graced the Dead of Winter stage. In the summer of 2011, Ian Paige left on a cosmic journey with the band Planets Around the Sun, but before he left he entrusted me with releasing Treble Treble Vol. 3, a compilation of Portland’s music he had personally curated. The project was funded with support from the Maine Arts Commission, in collaboration with SPACE Gallery, but it’s greatness resides in Ian’s ability to bring unite true artists within a single spinning cosmos. It is an honor to release Treble Treble Vol. 3 and I hope many people find it as magical a gateway into Portland’s music as the one I experienced that night in the Dead of Winter. -WTE (Eternal Otter Records) PressEternal Otter Records announces Treble Treble Vol. for fall release (Dispatch Magazine) Listen |
